What is Certificate of Origin
A Certificate of Origin (CO) is an important international trade document confirming that the goods in a particular shipment have been wholly obtained, produced, manufactured or processed in a particular country.
There are 2 major types of CO:
- Preferential CO: Click for details
issued to cover eligible exports for preferential tariff exemption or reduction under free trade agreements (FTA).

- Non-preferential CO: Click for details
COs may be requested by importing countries' Customs Departments, importers, freight forwarders or banks (for letter of credit clearance).
issued for goods which do not enjoy preferential treatment.
The Singapore International Chamber of Commerce is authorized to
issue the non-preferential CO (known as Ordinary CO) and Commonwealth Preference Certificate (qualifies for preferential treatment for exports to Mauritius).
