Focus Group Discussion with NCCS on Climate Change Strategy & Carbon Pricing
20th April 2017
A focus group discussion on proposed plans to introduce a carbon tax in Singapore from 2019, was held between the National Climate Change Secretariat (NCCS) and SICC members yesterday. The closed-door session shed light on the government’s rationale for pricing carbon and gave reassurance to companies that the system would be phased-in in stages to help them ease the transition to a carbon tax. Members also shared their perspectives on a recommended carbon tax system in Singapore’s context. Drawing on the merits of the Integrative Design Process (IDP), members urge the government to consider incorporating a flexible mechanism into a flat carbon tax to achieve greater resilience and comprehensiveness. Discussions from this session will contribute towards NCCS’s public consultation on carbon pricing in Singapore.
